Our Flamed Birch French rolling pins are the latest addition to our line of quality artisan kitchen products. This handcrafted rolling pin is made from Pennsylvania sourced Flamed Birch. These particular pieces of wood were saved from a reject baseball bat pile headed for Old Hickory. Each baseball bat blank creates two 18" French rolling pins. I turn these rolling pins by hand on a lathe in our workshop and make sure they are precise so they provide a smooth, consistent, and even roll.
They are precisely sanded to 220 grit on the lathe and then wet sanded at 1000 grit for an ultra smooth surface. From there, they are seasoned with Food Grade mineral oil and finished off with a beeswax/mineral oil protective coat. You are left with a stunning rolling pin that rolls smoothly and has a silky smooth surface.
ABOUT THE LUMBER:
We hand select the highest quality lumber for each rolling pin. This flamed birch has electrifying curl and is very dense. It's one of the heavier woods we use. These flamed birch rolling pins start out as baseball bat blanks that were rejects for Old Hickory. Each baseball bat blank turns into two rolling pins.
