CUSTOM
FURNITURE

While we offer a wide selection of handcrafted furniture, we also enjoy designing and building custom furniture to meet your individual needs and expectations. We can create variations of our existing designs or design a new piece of furniture just for you.

We have built the following: benches, stools, chairs, bathroom vanities, media cabinets, dining cabinets, spindle back benches, bed frames, end tables, coffee tables, live edge furniture, restaurant tables, floating shelves, and webbed furniture.

Interested in having a custom piece of furniture built?

You're in the right place. Read below as we take you through the process.

Step 1: Design & Creative Process

Our design process is easy and starts with a simple conversation. We'll talk about your ideas, existing decorating themes, colors, patterns and styles. A trip to see your home (or business) and the space can be helpful, as well as reviewing furniture that you like. If you have measurements from your home or pictures from Pinterest or the internet, this helps as well.

We will prepare some sketches and a list of materials for you to review. After a few more conversations, an estimate and expected timeline will be developed and reviewed with you. There are no fees for this step of the process and no pressure for you to move forward.

Step 2: Project Commitment

If you decide to move forward with your custom piece, a 50% non-refundable deposit is required. Once received, detailed shop drawings will be prepared and we will once again discuss your project prior to beginning our work. At this time, we will provide a projected due date for your piece of furniture (typically 4-6 weeks).

Step 3: Build Phase

We will begin work on your piece and keep you informed of our progress with frequent communication and pictures at key steps in the process. You are always welcome to visit the shop to see your furniture as it comes to life. If we have any questions or need to make any decisions along the way, we will ask you first.

The build phase is often overlooked but it's key in building custom furniture. It all starts with a trip to one of our select lumber mills where we hand select the lumber for your project. We only choose the highest quality lumber and look for lumber with strong figuring. We are fortunate in that we have consistent access to beautiful ash, cherry, and walnut; the staples of Pennsylvania hardwood. Now in Colorado, we still order from Pennsylvania for those staples and use Oak and Maple from local lumber mills.

Step 4: Completion

Your piece is now done. We will send detailed pictures to you or once again you can visit the shop to see your piece. The final payment is due prior to delivery.

Step 5: Delivery

Once your furniture is complete, you have the option to have it shipped, delivered through our personal delivery service or pick it up. Picking up your furniture is as easy as stopping by during our regular business hours or making an appointment. For local and regional delivery, please read our Delivery Service page. We ship furniture all the time using freight carriers. We build custom crates for your furniture and package the furniture in blankets, padding and plastic wrap. We include assembly instructions for the furniture if needed and send you can email on the best way to unpack the crate.

Step 6: Submit Furniture Inquiry

Let's start the conversation. Below, please fill out the general information. We respond within 24 hours to custom furniture inquiries. Depending on the project, we will email you, call you or arrange a time to meet at our shop or at your home. If you'd like to email us, please email Zack@Miikanawoodworking.com. Please include any relevant plans, designs or photos.

Thank you! We will respond within 24 hours and look forward to communicating with you further.
